Two Williams Squared
An exercise in juxtaposing William James and William S Burroughs:
"Genius is the art of nonhabitual thought." - William James
"Why should we think upon things that are lovely? Because thinking determines life. It is a common habit to blame life upon the environment. Environment modifies life but does not govern life. The soul is stronger than its surroundings." - William James
"Words, colors, light, sound, stone, wood, bronze belong to the living artist. They belong to anyone who can use them. Loot the Louvre! Steal anything in sight." - William S Burroughs
"I'm running out of everything now. Out of veins, out of money." - William S Burroughs

"It didn't happen overnight. It happened gradually. I was unhappy with my life and myself. As the years went on, it got worse. I was drinking every time my eyes were open... I couldn't afford to buy the drink but I still got it from somewhere... I lied and tried to keep it a secret but they could smell it a mile away. I knew it was a problem. I didn't like the person I was. I didn't like the hangovers. I was ill... It's amazing to be alcohol-free. I am there for the kids now, in body and mind. I do my housework, my washing and the cooking. I won't say I haven't have been tempted to try a drink since but I have resisted. I don't want to go back to that ever again."
- Tracie Oliver, quoted in 'DailyRecord.co.uk' article
Memo to bar owners: Keep the coffee going
"Canada Day (July 1st) weekend is notorious for bringing out the badly behaved boozers on the nation's highways and lakes. But downtown Toronto will be seeing an influx of teetotallers as more than 50,000 Alcoholics Anonymous members descend on the city for the 2005 World AA Convention (June 30 - July 3)":

"The sway of alcohol over mankind is unquestionably due to its power to stimulate the mystical faculties of human nature, usually crushed to earth by the cold facts and dry criticisms of the sober hour."
- William James
Ever get that mystical feeling,
like you've done this before?

To be sung to the 'Gilligan's Island Theme Song' music:
"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of an AA group, discussing agenda topics because they give a poop, the first mate was a skinny alkie boy, the skipper's an alkie too, 5 passengers showed up that day and they were alkies too, yes they were alkies too -- the meeting started getting rough, the purpose, it got lost, if not for the presence of a loving God, group conscience would be lost, group conscience would be lost, the GSR got the meeting back on track, maintaining unity, with Gilligan, the skipper too, a millionaire and his wife, a movie star, the professor and Mary Ann , AA Gilligan Style!"

Brighter Tomorrow Website
The new website I started working on has been delayed for a few reasons, my own procrastination being one of them :) but it should be ready to go in the near future... dryblog will still be online and here's something new, the addition of a Dryblog Forum at Recovery Crossroads (see below).
As Groucho Marx put it, "I wouldn't want to join any group that would have me as a member." That aside, dryblog is now a member of the new Recovery Crossroads portal of recovery sites.
Here you will find multiple website menus and forums all in one place. You can get your very own free blog, access to recovery radio shows, multiple articles, audio clips, step studies, big book with audio, chat rooms, and much much more! It's fully operational while being developed.
The forums and many other areas of Recovery Crossroads are accessible once you have registered. A conformation e-mail is then sent to you and you're good to go - registration keeps the forums recovery-safe. Take a moment to join us as it is completely free!
Share some inspiration or a smile with others in the Dryblog "Quotes" & Quips Forum. Post humorous or recovery quotes, pictures, jokes, videos, links to stuff, or comment on posts at dryblog. You can also join in recovery discussions by posting or just reading topics in the other forums.
Feel free to browse through all the different websites involved without registering (see the website menu) and much more here:

"Between the ages of 15 and 18 little was heard of Garrett. In Juan Para he bought himself a hotel room for two years with money he had saved and organised a schedule to learn how to drink. In the first three months he forced himself to disintegrate his mind. He would vomit everywhere. In a year he could drink two bottles a day and not vomit. He began to dream for the first time in his life. He would wake up in the mornings, his sheets soaked in urine 40% alcohol. He became frightened of flowers because they grew so slowly that he couldnt tell what they planned to do. His mind learned to be superior because of the excessive mistakes of those around him. Flowers watched him. After two years he could drink anything, mix anything together and stay awake and react just as effectively as when sober. But he was now addicted, locked in his own game..."

"To lose a life like this was unnecessary and I never want anything like this to happen to anyone... Shawn was a beautiful person... I don't have the words to explain the damage drugs can do. We want to make sure his death was not in vain. We hope that by being open and honest about what happened to our son, kids will learn more than just impersonal facts on paper and these painful situations will stop happening."
